Focus may become easier if you try to find something new.

Things were going. It was a chill day. I drew a bit on my notebook and some more. Wrote down a few thoughts.

Tried to focus on a dot on a piece of paper for 5 minutes. What I noticed was my attention will inevitably drift away from the dot onto something else. I could pull my attention back to the dot if I wanted to, or I could let my attention keep drifting. It was usually one of these two scenarios.

The "pulling" happened pretty naturally. "Noticing" might be a more accurate word: Oh wait, I am now looking at my chair. (Looks at the dot again.) The dot is actually not a dot. The bottom part of the dot is flatter than the top part of the dot. (I drew the dot so naturally it would not be perfectly round.)

The noticing, as it seemed to me, was more of a process of generating interest and curiosity. Can I find something new about that which I am trying to pay attention? What about its shape? What about its color? What about its smell? What about its surroundings? This was really fun and so much more engaging than merely staring at the dot.

My bedtime alarm just went off. Good night.
